Understanding How Far Infrared Saunas Work

Far infrared (FIR) saunas bestow many of the benefits that traditional saunas do. They can help a person relax, bestow a feeling of rejuvenation, and slightly elevate a person's heart rate.

The major difference between traditional saunas and FIR saunas revolves around the way they work. By better understanding FIR saunas, one may opt for their use rather than to use other types of saunas.

How Does a FIR Sauna Work? 

FIR saunas work by utilizing infrared beams. These beams work much like other types of heat emissions, yet their heightened concentration and more direct delivery allow them to transmit as much energy while using a lower temperature.

In a traditional sauna, heat is transmitted via convection using air or water. The density of these materials requires that more energy be used to raise the body to an effective temperature, which in turn means that traditional saunas tend to be hotter than FIR saunas.

The result is that FIR saunas heat up to 140 degrees Fahrenheit while traditional saunas require a temperature of over 190 degrees Fahrenheit. FIR saunas can be more comfortable for certain types of individuals, and some of the negative side effects of traditional saunas can be avoided.

An Alternative to an Age-Old Therapy 

FIR saunas represent the next step in sauna technology. Intertek-tested saunas that lack EMF represent the most comfortable types of FIR saunas to use, which in turn means that they will often give the most accurate impression of how FIR saunas work.
