Advisable Frequency of Sauna Use

With the many purported health benefits brought on by the use of sauna, it’s no wonder that more and more people are becoming interested in allotting more time for this “sit-down workout” session. For newcomers to the sauna fan club, however, it’s understandably why they would be concerned about the proper use of the room. The most common questions involve the length of time that they can stay inside, whether the heat will not be bad for the skin, and how often they can come for a session.

Length of Time

For first-timers, the most ideal amount of time for you to stay inside the sauna is anywhere from five to 10 minutes. This is because you want your body to get used to the environment first. You don’t want to shock your system by immediately immersing inside the sauna for a full hour. Consider this as your opportunity to test the waters--or rather, the heat--first, so to speak. The next time you visit, or when you feel you’re ready to make an upgrade, then you can extend 20 minutes.

Hot-Cold Method

Regular users, meanwhile, can stay inside the sauna for up to an hour. Some prefer to do it per rounds, taking “breaks” after every 15 minutes, for example, then cooling down by taking a quick cold shower or jumping in the pool, before going back for another 15 minutes, and so on and so forth. The contrast between the two temperatures make it more beneficial for your body.

Daily Use

The great thing about saunas is that it’s safe enough for you to use everyday. Also, there are portable versions available now, so if it’s an integral part of your workout time, you can get a portable. This way, you can take it with you even if you have to move out of your current residence.
