The Difference Between Far and Near Infrared Saunas

If you are set on investing in an infrared sauna for your home, you need to do your research and find out what particular kind works best for you. There are commonly two variations of infrared saunas: far infrared sauna and near infrared sauna.

Far Infrared Sauna

Basically, this means that while it creates heat and hits objects from a distance, it does not affect the air temperature. This kind of infrared heat is absorbed very well by the skin because it is compatible with human composition--80% water. As such, it’s recognized as a viable heating wavelength for both animals and humans.

Within the context of a sauna, the far infrared (FIR) sauna encompasses the entire cabin, and as such, will require electrical wiring around as well. The presence of these wirings will then produce low-level EMFs. In terms of benefits, FIR saunas, while effectively causing you to sweat, does not harm your skin or body. So you still get the benefits of detoxification without having to worry about your body’s reaction to the heat.

Near Infrared Sauna

Unlike FIR, near infrared sauna uses infrared emitted from the nearer section of the energy spectrum. It’s said that near infrared is able to penetrate the skin better because it is delivered in a concentrated spot, and not distributed all throughout the spa cabin.

Overall, though, whether near or far, the fact is that infrared sauna is known for delivering plenty of health benefits. Be judicious about this particular investment, though, and study the pros and cons of each type, so you can make an informed decision about the best infrared sauna for your needs.
